in times of water restriction

Ways to open up your soil?

Low-til deep ripping, this fractures the soil. It is particularly effective when the soil is dry.

Air blasting – a technique that blasts air under pressure into the soil to open up the soil structure to assist drainage and aeration.

Always be careful with underground surfaces. Ring Dial Before you Dig on 1100 website: www.dialbeforeyoudig.com.au

Use gypsum on most clay based soils. Gypsum flocculates the fine clay particles chemically, opening up the soil. Ensure that you also add organic matter to the soil as the reaction is short term. The organic matter will have a chance to infiltrate into the soil and retain the open characteristics in the future.

Build the garden beds up using organic matter. Worms will help to dig organic matter into the soil and bring soil particles to the surface forming a rich loamy soil.
