Why would a new garden centre start up?
Not all is gloomy in the world of gardening. Many garden clubs are busting at the seams for having too many members, others however have too few.
The public want service.. they want something unique… they want plants they cannot get elsewhere!
A garden centre that stocks the same items as the local hardware store is only putting themselves up to be pushed down. So how can a garden centre create a unique experience surrounded by competition still survive? It’s all about what they can offer YOU – the customer.
A recent new addition to the South East Queensland retail arena is Spring Fields Garden Centre at Wacol, on the boundary of Brisbane and Ipswich. Plants available here can also be seen at many local garden centres and hardware stores but… there is a distinctive appeal to this garden centre that others do not have. The gardens are done up with flowers, and lots of them. The display specimens are in flower. The appeal is almost blatent faminine, but then again that is the core buying market. However, the men are not overlooked.
This garden centre is in stiff competition for the leisure dollar but the attitude is focused on customers and plants that people like. Having a garden club as part of the nursery is a great benefit for the public. A critical factor for success is to keep the gardening public aware that this garden centre exists on Progress Road in Wacol.
Contributing writer to subTropical Gardening magazine, Noel Burdette is one of the owners of this retail store and hopes to see the magazine readers and subscribers there at some time enjoying the diverse range of plants for sale and will also help all keen gardeners find those elusive old-fashioned treasures.
If you’re looking at buying plants, head out to Progress Road, Wacol and track down the Spring Fields Garden Centre.
