Cynthia was born in
North Queensland and grew up surrounded
by rainforest and lush tropical flowers
and foliage, fostering her interest in
plants. She completed a Bachelor of
Agricultural Science (Honours) at the
University of Queensland, specialising
in horticultural extension and went on
to complete a Masters Degree (Research)
investigating the seasonal performance
and growth of strawberry plants.
She has worked for
state departments of agriculture in
Victoria and Queensland in various roles
including - advisor to the stone fruit
industry, garden advisory officer, plant
health diagnostician to the commercial
cut flower and nursery industry,
commercial cut flower specialist
(Australian natives and South African
proteas), manager of a plant health
diagnostic service and, most recently,
turf grass extension officer. In the
process she has authored, co-authored
and edited many books, research reports,
fact sheets, magazine articles and
internet pages.
Cynthia finds turf
culture challenging as it seeks to
artificially manipulate a (normally)
single species on disparate soil
underlays to produce a landscape surface
that is fit for purpose. A big ask!
She has a fine
range of culinary herbs in her home
garden. |
