Harry had a late
introduction into the joys of being
a professional gardener.
Although being an avid gardener most
of his life, it was not until the
integration of computers into the
newspaper industry in 1983 his vocation
as a newspaper compositor came to
an end.
Enrollment at the newly opened Grovely
TAFE College in 1984 began a long
association with both the College
and as a member of the Australian
Institute of Horticulture, firstly
as an Associate Member and later as
a full Member (after obtaining the
necessary academic qualifications).
Harry was, in the very early days
of the AIH (Queensland State Council)
its Treasurer, a position he held
for many years.
For his work within the AIH, he was
made a Fellow of the Institute in
October 1994.
After many years of part-time study,
Harry was awarded the Advanced Certificate
of Horticulture (Parks and Gardens)
in January 1992.
Now in his eightieth year, Harry is
still an active horticulturist, and
a keen proponent for the advancement
of professional horticulture within
the industry.
